Another couple trades have been locked in ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline!
The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves, sending Shane Greene down to Georgia. The deal was reported by a source at The Atlantic. Details are still to be determined, and Detroit’s return has yet to be confirmed.
The Braves have also agreed to a trade with the San Francisco Giants for Mark Melancon. In return the Giants got Tristan Beck and Daniel Winkler, according to a source at The Atlantic.
These moves bolster Atlanta’s bullpen even further, after they added right-hander Chris Martin from the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
These moves give the Braves three strong relievers with closing experience. While the Phillies and Mets have also made deals that strengthen their pitching staff, Atlanta may have done just enough to stay atop the NL east for the second straight year.
Let’s look at their lines
If we take a look at all of these additions, the Braves can be scary good down the stretch and through the postseason. Let’s take a look at the guys Gabe Burns notes.
Josh Donaldson: .255/.367/.519 with 25 HR and 66 RBI
Brian McCann: .276/.335/.463 with 10 HR and 36 RBI, splitting time with Tyler Flowers
Dallas Keuchel: (8 starts since joining ) 3-4, 3.86 ERA/39 Ks/18 BB over 49 IP
Shane Greene: 0-2 with 22 saves, 1.18 ERA/43 Ks/12 BB over 38 IP
Chris Martin: 0-2 with 4 saves and 12 holds, 3.08 ERA/43 Ks/4 BB over 38 IP
Mark Melancon: 4-2 with 1 save, 5 holds, 3.50 ERA/44 Ks/16 BB over 46 1/3 IP
Now all they have to do is perform. With their young, talented core, potential for explosive offense, and anchors they just added to the pen, I’d expect them to do just that.
