Breaking Angles: The Dallas Virus Club

Estimated Reading Time: 2 Minutes

Our brains here at The Turf have officially exploded. There are two pieces of news today coming out of Dallas that have sent us over the edge.

Let’s start with the group formerly known as America’s Team…

First off, Jerry Jones is a fucking idiot. He’s a piece of trash that is only relevant because he’s an old white man in Texas. His insistence that the Cowboys play in front of fans this season tells us three things.

  1. He’s an old man who hates facts and science.
  2. He believes rules don’t apply to him.
  3. He intends to be a puppeteer pulling Goodell’s strings when the NFL get closer to a decision as to how they’re planning to approach this season.

COVID-19 numbers in Texas are through the roof right now. However, all Jerry can see, all he can EVER see, are dollar signs. This is going to backfire in a big way. But hey, at least it’s still a few weeks down the road, right?

Enter FC Dallas

Major League Soccer did the responsible thing this summer, and followed the NBA down to the bubble in Orlando. It made sense. Do a ton of Coronavirus testing ahead of sending the teams down to Florida. Limit contact. Make sure tracing is in place. Take all necessary precautions.

Well, FC Dallas watched that blow up in their faces as they pulled out of the MLS is Back tournament due to TEN positive tests. Then, Nashville SC had to pull out for the same reasons. Two teams acting irresponsibly weren’t able to play in Orlando.

The tournament went well, in case you were wondering.

And then, just days ago, MLS announced they were going to be resuming their season following the tournament. Sure, that’s fine. You’re already in a bubble.

Oh, wait, you’re going to send everyone back to their home stadiums? AND you’re going to have FC Dallas and Nashville SC, the two teams that couldn’t get their shit together a month ago, play a home-and-home?

That felt ludicrous in and of itself. Then, this happened…

My head exploded. Your head should be exploding.

Shut it down.

This is so insanely irresponsible. I don’t wish any ill will on any players and fans. However, I hope there is something that blows up in their faces. Because this is fucking asinine.
