Goodbye, Ray Ciccarelli! You Weren’t Worth Our Time

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

So after NASCAR banned the confederate flag from it’s events, everyone around the country was waiting for the fallout from fans. We did not have to wait very long, as Ray Ciccarelli became the first driver to quit after this new policy.

Or maybe it wasn’t because of the policy. I don’t know. It’s honestly very unclear.

In a Facebook post, Ciccarelli let his fans know that he will be done racing after the 2020 season. You can no longer view that post, because his page no longer exists. Weird move, but you’ll understand why in a second.

Here’s the statement posted to his Facebook page:

“Well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction Nascar is headed we will not participate after 2020 season is over , i don’t believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love. I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is f—ing one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!!”

So couple of things here.

Ray Ciccarelli HATES punctuation. Cannot stand punctuation. Go back and read that statement. Did you realize that it’s only three sentences long? That’s amazing. I cannot stress enough how little thought Ray Ciccarelli put into this. It’s outstanding really.

Using “ppl” instead of writing out “People” is unsettling in normal posts, but in the one where you quit your sport? It’s an unreal move.

Whatever is one word not two, Ray. You have to do a better job at acting like you care about this.

This is a sentence that Ray wrote: “I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is f—ing one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money we are to participate in any political BS.”

I know that’s half the statement, which is three sentences long, but it’s worth the dive.

The idea that Ray could care less about the Confederate flag, but cares so much about it being used as “political BS” that he’s quitting is frankly stunning. And then there’s the part about “ppl” who do care, and that doesn’t make them racist. Other things that don’t make you racist, according to Ray Ciccarelli, include posts like these:

Goodbye, Ray Ciccarelli! May history know you as a fool who rage quit his dream job. But then again, it’s already difficult to remember someone who has one more top 10 finish than anyone reading this.

I get it, you are a stickler for punctuation. Obviously you can give criticism but it’s hard for you to swallow it.

Good riddance to bad trash. If NASCAR banned the Nazi flag, would people feel the same? I mean.. it’s *literally* the same. Racist jerks which lost.

NASCAR is showing some backbone here, and it’s great.
