Estimated Reading Time: 4 Minutes

Okay, I’ll get better at titling these things as we go. Also, this is a full weeks worth of Hot Takes, since the last post was on Wednesday. I’m not sure I’m in love with that format so we may start seeing a weekend edition of Hot Takes if it’s a particularly interesting week. Who knows? I’m pretty sure you can comment on this post so if you have opinions share them??? Let’s get to it.

Miguel Cabrara is SLUMPING
Tigers fan and fantasy owners alike are mildly panicking. Because it’s early in the season and everyone has forgotten the Miggy will figure it out. But currently it doesn’t look good as he is 3 for 24 with 5 walks and no RBIs. Ouch. He was 0 for 12 before getting his first hit (off former teammate Rick Porcello in the 1st on Sunday), which spawned the greatest Ian Kinsler reactionary dance ever. EVER.

Get used to seeing this. It's my current favorite thing. Get used to seeing this. It’s my current favorite thing.

When Miggy figures it out though the Tigers offense is going to be something else. Which is good because their bullpen IS A DUMPSTER FIRE.

Will Myers hit for the cycle.

And I have never seen so many people not care. The sabermetrics guys don’t care about things that are cool like cycles or Triple Crowns (they’re very wrong by the way). Some are saying because he hits third and it happened in Colorado it wasn’t that difficult for him. Look, dude went single, double, homer, triple in 4 at bats. He saved the hardest one for last. IT’S IMPRESSIVE. It’s also likely to be the most exciting thing to happen to the Padres all season (Yeah, I said it.)

At the end of the first week of play, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Minnesota Twins led the NL and AL, respectively.
Which goes to show that baseball is a cruel sport that gives struggling teams fanbases hope in the early part of the season before taking everything from them by the All Star Game. Seriously, maybe the Diamondbacks can manage to hold on to a Wild Card spot, but it seems unlikely to me.

Speaking of the Twins
The asked for the away clubhouse at Comerica Park to be fumigated after a four game series with the Boston Flu Sox. That team is currently so decimated that Brock Holt was being asked to hit leadoff, even though I’m pretty sure he was patient zero of the team. Goes to show what some people will do to get more playing time.

This is Steve Holt, whom I think of whenever I hear Brock Holt. And if you don;t know who this is I pity you. This is Steve Holt, whom I think of whenever I hear Brock Holt. And if you don;t know who this is I pity you.

Tim Tebow hit a HR in his first AB with A-ball Columbia Fireflies
He stopped at second because he “didn’t know it went over the wall.” In 5 games he is 4 for 20 with 2 HR and 5 RBIs, which means he can muscle A-level pitching over the wall. Yawn.

Staying in the minors, the Toledo Mud Hens have won Minor League Baseball.
With the concept of a Boba Fett themed jersey. Just look at this thing.

Let’s not forget in the past they’ve had Chewbacca, Ghostbusters, and Saved By The Bell themed jerseys as well as ones that say Holy Toledo across the front. A++ marketing.

The new intentional walk rule is an atrocity.
It’s so bad and just goes to show how little the commissioner knows about the game. I used to love watching good hitters make pitchers pay for being lazy and getting too close to the plate with their IBBs. Now the manager just points to the base. Yawn. And it’s extremely confusing when it happens in the middle of an at bat.

The Gold Collection jerseys that MLB gives its Champions are garish and gawdy.
And I like them so much I have a Javier Baez Cubs Gold Collection jersey on its way to me.

Statcast is fun to see on highlights
But will never be special until I can see it in realtime. Get on it MLB. This is what you should be focusing on figuring out, not how to take relievers out of the game.

SERIOUSLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH ROB MANFRED?!
“You know the problem with relief pitchers is that they’re so good. I’ve got nothing against relief pitchers, but they do two things to the game: The pitching changes themselves slow the game down, and our relief pitchers have become so dominant at the back end that they actually rob action out of the end of the game, the last few innings of the game. So relief pitchers is a topic that is under active consideration. We’re talking about that a lot internally.” THE COMMISSIONER OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SAID THIS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING CRAZY PILLS.

The Phillies scored 12 runs in the first inning on Saturday.
No hot take here, just impressive. Although I’m sure the last thing Jeremy Guthrie wanted for his 38th birthday was to give up 10 runs in less than an inning’s worth of work. Oops.

Until next week baseball fans.
