Giancarlo Stanton and the Miami Marlins

Yup, you read that caption right. 6th straight games in a row with a Home Run. 11 for his last 12 games. 18th since the All Star Break. 23rd in his last 35 games. In simple terms, Stanton is putting on the most impressive power hitting performance since Roger Maris. He’s single-handedly making people watch Marlins baseball. And as crazy as this might sound, the Marlins need to trade him before the end of the month. With news breaking that a money group (publicly faced by Derek Jeter) is lining up to buy the franchise, the Marlins should capitalize on this amazing tear and move Stanton for enough quality prospects to effectively hit the reset button under new management. Yes, the fans in Miami would riot at first, but it would be beneficial for both parties. The Marlins would be freeing Stanton to actually go play for a contender and start to replenish their barren farm system. Not to mention getting most of Stanton’s contract off their books. And any team that they can deal with immediately becomes better. There isn’t a single team in the majors who doesn’t benefit from the addition of a player of Stanton’s caliber. In the long run, it makes the sense even if the short term will be painful. But hey, if everyone lied and agreed with my opinion these wouldn’t really be hot takes, would they?

The Untouchable Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on pace to win 115 games this season which would make them the 3rd most winningest team ever. And they are showing no signs that that isn’t achievable. They recently became the first team since 1912 to go 43-7 over a 50 game stretch. And they haven’t missed a step with the loss of their ace, Clayton Kershaw, to a lower back injury. I know anything can happen, but I just don’t see any way any team takes a series from them going forward. They are just too damn good. Now imagine if they found a way to add Stanton. *shudder*

Player’s Appreciation Weekend

There’s a longer piece about jerseys coming soon, but coming up in August is MLB Player’s Appreciation Weekend and it will feature some of the coolest jersey ideas we’ve seen from MLB to date. Styled after Little League jerseys, and allowing the players to use whatever nickname they want on the back, I can’t wait to see these in action. My personal favorite is probably Beltre’s “El Koja,” simply because the reasoning for it is they couldn’t get the rights for “Kojak.”
