Monday Morning Cheat Sheet – November 28th, 2016

Estimated Reading Time: 2 Minutes

The Owners and the Players have been at it all week in order to secure a new Collective Bargaining Agreement before the December 1st deadline. Points of contention have been the International Draft and Compensatory picks via Qualifying Offers. Crossing our fingers, but reports have been that talks are improving.

The 2017 Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot was released this week. Joining the usual suspects this year is a fresh group of newcomers. The Biggest newbies to the Ballot are Catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, Montreal Expo Vladimir Guerrero and Boston Red Sox Outfielder Manny Ramirez. If all three make it to the Hall, 2016 and 2017 will be the year of Backyard Baseball.

The Boston Herald reported that the Red Sox and Giants were discussing Pablo Sandoval. The Boston Herald was wrong, as the Giants’ GM and Restaurant Chain Namesake Bobby Evans denied those claims. He also threw some sass back at the Sox and Sandoval.

The Boston Herald also reported that the Red Sox were considering shipping out Drew Pomeranz, Blake Swihart, Travis Shaw, Clay Buchholz and Jackie Bradley, Jr. this offseason. The Sox haven’t confirmed this notion, due to the fact that it is utterly PERPOSTEROUS.

The Boston Herald is BARELY a news source.

The Seattle Mariners acquire SS Jean Segura, Pitcher Zac Curtis and OF Mitch Haniger for SS Ketel Marte and Taijuan Walker. This was an incredible deal for both squads.

Noah Syndergaard has turned down the opportunity to pitch for the US in the World Baseball Classic. This is a smart move considering that all Mets pitchers are made of glass.

Kenley Jansen to the Marlins is starting to pick up some steam. Also picking up steam is Kenley Jansen’s retirement plans.

FORMER/CURRENT BEARDED VIKING Andrew Cashner put on a Ranger uniform for the first time. It’s not necessarily news, but it’s good to see Cashner’s beard is back.

Jason Castro signed with the Twins because he hates himself.

Alex Guerrero signed a 1-year deal with the Chunichi Dragons. The deal is worth $1.3 Million dollars, but don’t worry the Dodgers paid him $8MM last year to not play baseball.

SPEAKING OF THE DODGERS, it surfaced this week that the Los Angeles Dodgers are “millions of dollars in debt” and need to shed some payroll in order to comply with MLB debt regulations and to pull back on player spending. This isn’t much of a surprise when you consider that 5 out of the top 10 expensive contracts in LA have not been disappointing to say the least.

The Dodgers also will pay $40 million dollars to players who no longer play the game or will be playing against them.

Justin Colombo is a 2017 Broadway Show Softball League All-Star at 3B/SS. He's essentially the Manny Machado of the Kinky Boots team. Justin has been writing about Baseball since he was a little kid. Now that being an actor in NYC has given him a lot of free time, in 2015 he decided to take his passion public and founded Three Up, Three Down as a way to express his love for the game. From there, Three Up, Three Down grew from a hobby to an obsession. After years of growth and one insult from MLB's Historian, Justin launched The Turf, a way to expand into all areas of the sporting world. Follow him on Instagram and Twitter. LET'S. GO. METS.
