Freddie Freeman was having an MVP caliber season. His slash line is at .341/.461/.748. with a NL leading 14 HR. And then he got drilled in the left wrist with a fastball and fractured it. While it won’t require surgery, the Braves expect their star to likely miss 10 weeks. That’s a huge blow for a team that was starting to find themselves.
Jose Bautista needs to grow up
HIS slash line for the year is .227/.350/.405 with 7 HR. Those aren’t bad numbers but they aren’t great. They certainly aren’t great enough to be doing things like this:

Especially when you’re down 8-3 in the Bottom of the 8th and it’s a solo shot. Honestly, I’m surprised he doesn’t get punched in the face more often. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good bat flip. But it has to be earned. This wasn’t. And if the Braves already weren’t mad enough at the Blue Jays for hobbling Freeman. Benches cleared but nothing really happened after that.
The Attitude in Toronto is Toxic
So, first there’s the antics of Joey Bats, which as we saw last year are worthy of getting socked in the face. But that’s nothing compared to what Kevin Pillar did in the same 8-4 loss that Bautista was flipping lumber through. In the 7th, after being struck out on an 0-2 slider Pillar clearly yelled an anti-LGBTQ slur towards pitcher Jason Motte. (This likely fueled the benches clearing in the next inning.) This type of language has exactly no place in baseball or civilization as we know it. To their credit the Blue Jays met with MLB and decided to suspend Pillar for 2 games. But this is far too similar to an incident involving Yunel Escobar when he was a Blue Jay. That incident also resulted in a suspension, and essentially was the final nail in the coffin for Escobar’s career in Toronto. But he was having a terrible year at the plate and Pillar is not. We shall see how this plays out, but in my opinion Pillar needs to be shunned, and there need to be some inquires as to the atmosphere in the Blue Jays clubhouse.
THIS IS YOUR FEEL GOOD MOMENT OF THE WEEK
On Tuesday night the Dodger’s had a bobblehead night for Joc Pederson. His older brother Champ threw out this first pitch.

If you don’t know Champ Pederson’s story, I highly recommend this piece the two brothers wrote for The Player’s Tribune.
The Rangers are On Fire
I don’t really have anything more to add to this. But the Tiger’s(my team) lost the weekend series to the Ranger’s (my GF’s team) so here it is.
Anthony Rendon had a huge game again on Tuesday, Bryce Harper launced a 450 ft HR in the same game, and Anthony Rizzo hit a monster HR. And none of those things compare to this:

Just go back and watch that again. Damn.
Sadly David Ross came in 2nd on Dancing With The Stars
He came in second to former NFL running back Rasheed Jennings. Proving once again athletes make great dancers and dancers are great athletes.
Former Tiger’s OF Anthony Gose is down in A-Ball learning how to pitch.
Former OF Anthony Gose made his professional pitching debut for the @LkdFlyingTigers.

His first pitch was a 99 MPH heater. Oh, did I mention he’s a lefty? If he an figure out how to get people out, the Tiger’s could get the big arm they need desperately for their ‘pen. Not very realistic but I need hope for a team that is playing .500 ball at the 40 game mark.

To me, Rachel Nichols is the personification of posting a black square on Instagram.
