Maybe this is a bit of a shitpost, but I don’t care. There are too many dope hairstyles in the NBA and someone’s gotta talk about ’em. These are current players and their current styles, so sorry, no Dennis Rodman.
Sit back, relax, take a break from stats/analyses and behold, the most noteworthy ‘dos in the league.
Note: These are in no particular order because I couldn’t possibly choose. Let us know what you think in the comments.
1. Jimmy Butler
I love Jimmy Butler’s hair. I don’t know how anyone could not. I was a little worried during the off-season when he was rocking the braids, but his classic style came back with the regular season. Butler’s signature look has got it all: shape, structure, and sass. I hope he never changes it.
2. Kawhi Leonard
I have to mention Kawhi because his signature braids are a blast from the past. He’s keeping the braids alive and he absolutely kills it. Others have hopped on the braid train this season, like Andrew Wiggins and DeAndre Jordan, but Kawhi wears it best.
After Iverson, of course.
3. Gordon Hayward
We haven’t seen much of Hayward’s perfectly manicured coif this season due to his heartbreaking injury within the first five minutes of the first game of the season. And I have missed it so. Always perfectly styled and somehow in tact, Hayward’s ‘do had to make the list.
4. Elfrid Payton
Elfrid Payton’s hair is a phenomenon I don’t understand and I don’t try to. He looks like a character from Hey Arnold in the best way possible. His hair-visor seems to be affecting his game negatively. Whether his shots are literally blocked by his hair, or if his hair just obscures his vision, the style just doesn’t seem to be conducive to his job, ya know?
That being said, I hope it f*cking stays.
5. Steven Adams
The evolution of Steven Adams’ hairstyle is definitely one of my favorites in the NBA. He went from a clean cut, stacheless cherub to the rugged, long-locked wonder we see today.
Perhaps my favorite thing about Steven Adams’ hair is that he grew it out because he was tired of paying $60 for a haircut. What a guy.
6. Nick Young
Look, I don’t like Nick Young. Maybe it’s because he broke Iggy Azalea’s heart and I love “Fancy”. Maybe it’s because I once saw on Reddit that he’s a douchebag who won’t sign autographs for kids. Maybe it’s because his nickname is “Swaggy P”. It’s probably all of those things.
But his hair is fresh. Damn, is it fresh.
7. Jaylen Brown
I wanted to put a good old-fashioned flat top hairstyle on the list, and since Nerlens Noel and Iman Shumpert decided to shake things up, Jaylen Brown finds himself on the list. I’m here for this delightfully retro look.
8. Ricky Rubio
Ricky Rubio has traded his boy-next-door short haircut for some longer Don Juan locks. He looks like both Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp from the Pirates of the Caribbean films. He looks like he’s going to hit on you in a dark European alley. He look greasy in a good way.
There are quite a few guys who rock the tied back long hair, but my personal favorite is Nene. The reason Nene gets my vote is because he’s letting his hair and beard go gray. I love when people embrace their gray and he looks damn good. Like a fine wine, you feel me?
And there you have it, folks. My top 9 favorite hairstyles in the NBA. Do you agree with any of them? Who would you add? Sound of in the comments below.
