Well, they’ve done it. The New Orleans Saints are making moves to further cement their hold on top of the NFC South. They’ve signed Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant to a 1-year deal. The details of the deal have yet to be confirmed.

A Dangerous Offense Just Got Scarier

This is a marquee move for a top super bowl contender in the NFC. At 7-1, with an already dangerous offense, and one of the greatest quarterbacks under center, they’ve added a veteran player who’s a proven playmaker. Look for Bryant to start out wide almost immediately, used in a variety of packages. Even if he takes enough attention to give the other Saints receivers space this will be a great investment for New Orleans.

The combination of Michael Thomas and Dez Bryant out wide, along with receiver Tre’Quan Smith is downright scary. Add in a backfield of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram, and you’re looking at one of the most dangerous set of weapons any quarterback has at their disposal. When your quarterback is Drew Brees? You’re officially in talks for the top offense in the league.

Can they finish?

This is a team that is looking for the Super Bowl. Obviously all 32 teams are, but at this stage in the season, there are a few frontrunners. The Saints are looking to push to the top of the NFC, and be ready for a first round bye. Bryant definitely enhances their ability to do so. That’s not to say that there aren’t question marks on this team. They may have an NFL-best Run Defense, but their Secondray leaves a lot to be desired. Also Benjamin Watson at tight end is not a household name, and a good tight end in today’s game is crucial. That being said, he did have an adorable baby announcement for the fans on Sunday:

Growing up in Washington DC, she never really had a team to call her own: Orioles (I was poor), Ravens (Oh God), Redskins (No.), Nationals (I'm 31.) But in New York, she found the delightfully cheap and scrappy underdogs, the New York Mets. Joanna is an actor and runs her own calligraphy business, Order She Wrote. Just another way into the hearts and minds of baseball fiancès. She also looks amazing in a neon yellow compression sleeve.
