The Super Bowl has come and gone. It was a battle of likable quarterbacks and likable players on both teams. The halftime show exceeded expectations (although I would have loved some Forgot About Dre). There wasn’t much to hate about the entire thing for a change. Well except for one thing if you’re a Steelers fan – the Bengals. The problem is, this current team and its players are so likable but I saw far too many Steeler fans rooting for them. I have a huge problem with this and here’s why.
Terrible Towel Incidents
If you are a Steeler fan in any capacity, this type of behavior should make your blood boil. Generally speaking, if you disrespect the Terrible Towel during Steelers week, you will lose. The Titans, Browns, Bengals (twice), and the Washington Football Team have all learned this. Myron Cope would be spinning in his grave right now if he found out Steeler fans were rooting for the Bengals.
I don’t think there is one player in the league that draws more ire to Steelers fans than Vontaze Burfict. During the playoffs in 2018, the Steelers and Bengals played a hard fought game that went right down to the wire. The Steelers were making their way down the field to get into field goal range. With 18 seconds left in the game, Ben Roethlisberger threw a ball over Antonio Brown’s head. After the ball sailed, Burfict came in late and lowered his head right into Brown’s. Brown was immediately knocked out and the hit allowed the Steelers to get closer into FG range to secure a win. It’s just brutal and one of the worst hits I’ve seen in the NFL.
There are other hits from Burfict through the years but this one alone should take the cake. Never root for this team!!!
Throwing trash at Ben
During the 2016 AFC Wild Card game, the Steelers once again faced off against the Bengals. In the third quarter, Roethlisberger was being carted off with the team doctor to treat an injury. As he headed into the tunnel, you could hear fans cheering and one even threw trash at Ben as he was on the cart. This is a fanbase that hasn’t won anything and it shows. They’re jealous of the Steelers’ success and they’ll show you exactly who they are when the going gets tough.
The Bengals are a classless franchise with perennially classless players. Their fans would never have rooted for the Steelers no matter if Tom Hanks (universally likable, right?) was quarterback. The reasons above are just a snapshot as to why you should never root for the Bengals – or any other AFC North team in general. Any Steeler fan who rooted for the Bengals in the Super Bowl, DM me and I’ll give you my address for where you can send your season tickets. WHODEY…0 Super Bowls.

To me, Rachel Nichols is the personification of posting a black square on Instagram.
