Thanksgiving Turf-y: The Turf Team’s DraftKings Lineups

Estimated Reading Time: 7 Minutes

For those of you who have been reading our site since the beginning, you know that we have a deep-rooted history with Daily Fantasy Sports. However, after being founded on the premise of DFS insight, we’ve backed away from the daily grind of degenerate fantasy sports.

NOT TODAY.

On this the most sport-centric of holidays, we here at the Turf are giving you everything you need to know for the Turkey Day DraftKings contests. So without further adieu, let’s get to the lineups.

Kevin Michael Morin

I’m high on the Bills passing game, which makes me feel high. I’m Jonesing for some WR points. Marvin could be a steal, but it won’t be easy against a Bears defense that’s absolutely a steal at such a low price. Jared Cook is on his horse and Tarik Cohen is a solid buy. Zeke may struggle against a strong Buffalo defense, but at home on Turkey day you can’t count him out. We’ll see him jumping into the Salvation Army bucket again.

Katie Pierce

  • QB – Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
  • RB – Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions
  • WR – Tedd Ginn, Jr., New Orleans Saints
  • TE – Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
  • FLEX – Marvin Jones, Jr., Detroit Lions
  • Defense/Special Teams – Buffalo Bills

So, here’s the deal.. I have zero to little reasoning behind my picks. This is my first year doing fantasy ever, so if I have any luck it’s strictly dumb luck. Josh Allen has been a stud for me all season in my league, so there’s no way I’m not taking him as my QB.

If the Lions have any hope of scoring points it’ll be thanks to in part to the combination of Jones Jr and Golladay, who have been the biggest highlights amongst an otherwise miserable Lions season. Plus with an undrafted rookie QB likely under center it’s no secret that they’ll be big targets and the Lions always come a little harder when they know that there will be a big turkey dinner on the table later that day. As for everyone else I went with the (mostly) obvious choices in hopes of scoring some beginner’s luck.

Joe Danbusky

  • QB – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas Cowboys
  • RB – Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints
  • WR – Calvin Ridley, Atlanta Falcons
  • WR – Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys
  • TE – T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions
  • FLEX – Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons
  • Defense/Special Teams – Chicago Bears

In honor of Thanksgiving being an exercise in family bonding, I decided to take a poll among family members in order to come up with my consensus lineup of the Thanksgiving Day slate.

I bounced around the room from brother to uncle to in-law to niece, searching for valuable insight that might guarantee me a winning lineup.

Sadly, I found nothing solid. No leads or insider information that was useful in helping me feel good about this lineup. Instead, I did gain “plausible deniability”, so if my lineup is an utter failure I have plenty of other family members to blame. Of course, if I end up cashing here there will be a long line of relatives looking for their pieces of the pie… oh well.

Andrew Mark Wilhelm

  • QB – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Bo Scarbrough, Detroit Lions
  • RB – Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Marvin Jones, Jr., Detroit Lions
  • WR – Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints
  • TE – Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
  • FLEX – Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas Cowboys
  • Defense/Special Teams – Detroit Lions

I wish I had some clever reasoning for this. But I don’t. The Lions suck so I’m naturally going all-in on their defense. Which is the worst in the league. Because what else is a Detroit boy supposed to do. Sigh.

Justin Colombo

  • QB – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions
  • WR – Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Ted Ginn, Jr., New Orleans Saints
  • TE – Logan Thomas, Detroit Lions
  • FLEX – John Brown, Buffalo Bills
  • Defense/Special Teams – Detroit Lions

Straight up, this just seems like the fine line between between mandatory picks, and Boom/Bust candidates. It’s a tough line to walk, but that’s why they call it gambling.

Josh Hansen

  • QB – Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
  • RB – Latavius Murray, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – John Brown, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – Allen Robinson II, Chicago Bears
  • TE – Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills
  • FLEX – Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas Cowboys
  • Defense/Special Teams – Chicago Bears

I am terrible at daily fantasy. It doesn’t stop me from playing. It should, but it doesn’t. The only time each year when I ever cash is thanksgiving. I would like to say it is because I know so much about football that the plethora of options on a normal football Sunday causes me to overthink things and this limited slate simplifies that. It’s obviously dumb luck but these are some of the many lies I tell myself on a daily basis so just go with it.

I started off with Josh Allen because he’s tall. That’s it. That’s the reason. Next, I went with the power combination of Latavius Murray and Devin Singletary. I like Murray to get plenty of touches with Kamara banged up and Singletary because Josh Allen is handing the ball off and as I mentioned before, he’s tall.

My wide receiver corp consists of John Brown, Amari Cooper and Allen Robinson. Dak loves Amari and that’s good enough for me. Robinson is the only real talented player on a Bears offense facing the pitiful Lions. Then there is John Brown who has Josh Allen throwing to him and remember, Josh Allen is tall. No brainer.

The tight end pool stinks so I went with Dawson Knox because that’s a cool ass name. Also, Matt Ryan may not be that tall but he has to throw it to someone and Julio may not suit up.

The always coveted flex spot goes to my guy Zeke. Nothing really needs to be said about him. He’s due for a monster, I feel it.

Last but not least, the Bears are my defense. They are the best defense taking the field tomorrow in any game and they are up against the Lions and some dude they found in a Costco parking lot.

The data is all there. Fade me at your own risk.

Kevin Raponey

  • QB – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills
  • RB – Bo Scarbrough, Detroit Lions
  • WR – Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
  • WR – Randall Cobb, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – Michael Thomas, New Orlean Saints
  • TE – Blake Jarwin, Dallas Cowboys
  • FLEX – Latavius Murray, New Orleans Saints
  • Defense/Special Teams – Chicago Bears

This just seems like the consensus of the Men’s Dressing Room at Rock of Ages. I trust them with my life, so they’ll get my picks.

Ryan Kelly

  • QB – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
  • RB – Elliot Ezekiel, Dallas Cowboys
  • RB – Tony Pollard, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – John Brown, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Randall Cobb, Dallas Cowboys
  • WR – Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints
  • TE – Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills
  • FLEX – Jared Cook, New Orleans Saints
  • Defense/Special Teams – Chicago Bears

There’s two things you can take to the bank in 2019. The first is the Drew Brees/Michael Thomas stack. The second is the Dallas running game, which is why I’m taking both Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. The Bears defense will smother whatever backup the Lions choose to put out there on Thursday. And finally, I’m trying to separate myself from the pack with one Dawson Knox. This kid is a beast, and I’m calling a nice 3-4 catch afternoon with a TD for him.

Violet Jones

  • QB – Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears
  • RB – Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas Cowboys
  • RB – Frank Gore, Buffalo Bills
  • WR – Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints
  • WR – Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions
  • WR – Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys
  • TE – Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
  • FLEX – Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills
  • Defense/Special Teams – Chicago Bears

I played some hunches for this lineup. Trubisky could have a big game against a “get right” defense like Detroit. Zeke should go off since the Eagles ran all over Buffalo a few weeks ago. Beasley will be jacked up to be back in Dallas so he’ll be good. Bears defense on a short week vs a turnover-prone backup QB? I’ll take that bet. Written always shows up on Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving, I’m a Cowboys fan because nothing says thanksgiving for this Texas girl than watching the Boys after destroying a turkey. That’s why my lineup is kind of Cowboys heavy. Does that count as nostalgia?

Enjoy the games! Have fun! Eat WAYYYYY too much food! And from all of us at The Turf…
