The Biggest Question Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft

Estimated Reading Time: 2 Minutes

It’s the day of the 2020 NFL and everyone is… at home… on their computer… virtually sending their picks up to the podium. While the world is upside down and the sporting world at a stand-still, it feels odd to look forward to a season that could potentially never happen.

And still, these past few weeks have been filled with talk of the future stars of the NFL and their past NCAA exploits. While the 2019 College Football season feels like a decade ago, the best players of the college gridiron are still chomping at the bit to get after it in the pros.

So how do you put together a draft with no people, no handshakes, no jerseys, no nothing? You do it live from your own living room! You video conference the draft!

How well will that go?…

We’ve all had a FaceTime with an older relative or a Zoom with a grandparent that doesn’t go as smoothly as it should. You spend the first ten minutes trying to let them know that yes, in fact, you can hear them and that yes, you can also see them. From there, it’s a matter of high internet speeds against the will of a long-winded story.

As lags happen and every other word gets dropped, you start thinking, “how much longer can I do this for?” Unfortunately, the NFL has to do it for seven full rounds.

And the practice first round didn’t go so well.

So, if you’re a glutton for punishment, the NFL’s virtual solution to drafting in a Coronavirus world might just be for you. If you’re not, maybe hop in for a few picks just to remind yourself that sports exist, and will be back at some point in the future.

But until that day, we can relish in the games of the past and the stars of the future. Or tonight, you can watch Jerry Jones struggle to select an inside lineman from an unfortunate up-angled shot of his undoubtedly massive mansion.

Because for the first time in a long time the NFL Draft represents hope not just for Jets fans, but for all of us wishing the world would turn right side up again.

What. A. Time. To. Be. Alive. Folks.
