As I sat here on Valentines Day, and I’m sure my fiancee would not be mad at me saying that, I am smiling a little harder because Tony Boselli made the Hall of Fame. As I sit here, it’s a couple days after the Super Bowl and the only football I am able to focus on is not the outcome of that game but, instead, I am joyfully thinking about the first ever Jaguar inducted into the hall of fame. Hell, the other night I had the pleasure of meeting Beijing Winter Olympic 2022 silver medalist, Jaelin Kauf, and half of the time I couldn’t focus because… Tony Boselli made this Jaguar fan extremely proud. I couldn’t wait to get home and celebrate with the rest of Duval County. For the first time in a long time the Jaguars faithful had something to be proud about.
For the last 5 years it has seemed that Tony’s chances at making the Hall of Fame were diminishing faster and faster every year. “If not this year then when?” seemed to be the question leading up to the annual NFL Honors ceremony. Every year it felt like the year and then eventually felt like it wasn’t ever going to happen. Well this year Duval County, FL we can stand up with our chin high and chest out because we got one in there.
Tony played 6 of the most dominate years in Jacksonville from 1995-2001. He was the first ever selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars, going #2 overall in the 1995 NFL Draft. He was also the #1 pick in the 2002 Expansion draft when the league welcomed in the Houston Texans. That in itself is impressive. Tony’s best years were with Jacksonville, garnering 1990’s All-Decade recognition, despite only being in the NFL for 5 seasons in the 90’s. Between 1995 and 2000, Boselli was a 5 time Pro-Bowler and 3 time first team All-Pro. Tony Boselli is highly thought to be one of the meanest, most feared tackles to ever play the game. Injuries and complications with shoulder surgery ended his career extremely early. After the 2002 season Boselli retired, ending one of the shortest Hall of Fame careers ever. Thank you Tony! Jacksonville is proud!
