You made it! It’s finally the end of another work week. Sure, the weekend has lost a bit of its luster lately, but no work is still no work, even if it is just sitting at home doing nothing. I mean, unless you have kids or a family or responsibilities and if so, that’s a “you” problem.
I’m Doing My Part
If you have not seen Starship Troopers, stop reading this and go watch it. I’ve got nowhere to be, I can wait. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The satire is peak Paul Verhoeven. You know, the guy who gave us Robocop and Total Recall. This futuristic fascist society where the military reigns supreme and ventures into space to fight giant alien bugs may have gone over some people’s heads when released in the 90s. I know my adolescent brain just thought it was a kick ass action movie, which it still is, but it really is so much more.
It probably doesn’t help that it was marketed as a straight up sci fi action flick, but I will blame the studio for that. The opening scene is this hyper violent, over the top version of football as we know it, and it really sets the tone for what is to come.
The nonsensical hits, the over the top machismo and super humanlike skills are all just so stupidly perfect and I love it so much. Even the introduction to this ridiculous little love triangle that will permeate throughout is great. I think Red Letter Media put it best when they said this movie is basically 90210 vs CGI bugs. I could not sum this up any better than that so I will stop here and not even try.
Please go watch this movie. I’ve see it a million times and will be watching it again as soon as I hit post. It’s streaming on Netflix so you have no excuse. Do it if you haven’t before and if you have seen it, treat yourself to this masterpiece again. You’re welcome.
