If you know what a theatre tech week, then you know how busy I’ve been the past week and a half, which is why we missed last week’s #humptakes and why this week’s will be very, very brief. Look for more in depth coverage to resume next week.

College Basketball is Back!
No take here except to say Tuesday’s Duke-MSU game was one of the most exciting games of basketball I’ve seen on any level in a long time. My team may have lost, and Grayson Allen may have the most punchable face of any Duke villain ever, but man is this season going to be exciting.

College Football Rankings
Why does ESPN need an entire half hour program to tell us the 25 CFP Playoff rankings? Especially when the season isn’t over. It’s all conjecture and it doesn’t do anyone any good. Also, we desperately need an 8 team playoff. The champion from each of the Power 5 conferences, the best of the Group of 5, and 2 at large teams. It’s the only way this makes sense.

Speaking of things that don’t make sense, Thursday Night Football has got to go. When the most vocal opponent of the Thursday game (Richard Sherman) ends up injuring himself in a TNF game, you have to reevaluate. If you want to keep the Thursday game, it has to be played by teams coming off the bye. The only exception to this are the Thanksgiving tradition games for Detroit and Dallas. I know it’s making the league extra money, and they’re donating Color Rush profits, blah blah blah. The players don’t want this game. The networks don’t want this game. GET. RID. OF. IT.

World Soccer
The United States is toying with the idea of inviting Italy and other teams who didn’t make the World Cup to come play in it’s own tournament during that time. Because everyone loves the NIT opposite March Madness, so surely they’ll love this to right? Right? Hello? Anybody? Real talk: this is the worst thing to come out of US soccer and I’m including the fact that they lost to T&T in that. Ugh.

Andrew Mark Wilhelm is a professional Sound Engineer/Designer, and amateur photographer, writer, musician who recently relocated from California to Rochester, NY. Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit has made Andrew an avid fan of all things Detroit but nothing more so than his beloved Detroit Tigers. Every year he tells himself he won't drink the Lions Kool-Aid, and every year winds up heartbroken come January. A Spartan by heart, and a Golden Grizzly by degree, you can catch his (almost) weekly Hot Takes every Hump Day here at The Turf.
