For 50 years, Monday Night Football has given us a reason to look forward to the start of the workweek. The iconic broadcast showcases the best the NFL has to offer. From armchair Quarterbacks to pitcher and wing deals, from Cosell to Levy, all our rowdy friends are here for Monday Night. In Week 14 of the 2020 Season, that means the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Cleveland Browns.
The Final Chapter
This AFC divisional rivalry takes to prime-time in the final Monday Night game of the season. In years past you might see the Patriots as division champs and the Bills on the outside of the playoff picture at kickoff. Not this year. The Patriots will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and the Bills are the AFC East Division champs.
The New England Patriots Keys to Victory: Time to experiment
With the playoffs out of the question, and with Cam Newton most likely in his final game as a Patriot, it’s time to experiment and see what you have. In this situation you may very well see Jarrett Stidham under center at times in this game. The Patriots are a good candidate to select a Quarterback in the first round of the draft this year but it would be worth kicking the tires to see what you have in Stidham. The Patriots offense hasn’t scored a touchdown in two weeks, so what can it hurt? They only have pride to play for at this point anyway. To avoid the season sweep vs the Bills.
The Buffalo Bills Keys to Victory: Establish the Run
The Bills have been all Josh Allen in the past month. And it’s led to dominant wins over the Steelers, 49ers, and Broncos. But if the Bills want to succeed in the postseason they will have to be more balanced. Eventually the Josh Allen Show will get figured out. With the weak Patriots defense coming to town this is the perfect time for the Bills to work on their run game. They aren’t going to win the Super Bowl if all they have is Allen to Diggs, impressive as that may be.
Zach Morris saw 81 yards on 13 attempts in the win over the Broncos. The Bills would be wise to expand on that. The number two seed in the AFC is on the line. They will have firm control of that spot with a win Monday Night heading into the final week which should see the Bills rest some starters.
The Patriots have nothing to play for but getting in the heads of the Bills before the playoffs. You have to imagine that idea would sit pretty well with them. Look for them to try out some new scheme, maybe a new quarterback, and it makes the Patriots a wildcard in this game. Still, I think the Bills win this one handily.
Prediction: Bills 24, Patriots 13
