GameDay is coming to UCF! I can’t wait for Kirk Herbstreit to get booed! After all he deserves it. He was wildly incorrect in saying that UCF was worse than Fresno State, App. State, and Utah State. All of whom lost to Group of 5 opponents after Herbstreit’s heinous statement. Good one, Kirk. This week we will get some juicy competition as we move closer to Conference Championship week.
Last week my picks went 4-1 again! Yay. Sadly, my upset pick failed me again, but this time at least it was a close game. This now puts my overall record at 39-16 and 3-8 in upset picks. On to the next. It’s My World You’re Just Reading About It!
5: Buffalo at Ohio
Who’s up for some #MACtion? I certainly am. Have you ever found yourself on a Wednesday night saying: “Gosh, I wish there was a game on tonight?” The MAC conference has the answer for you. The Bulls are far and away the best team in the MAC, but have to travel Ohio to face a solid Bobcats squad. Both teams are pretty evenly matched on paper. The one difference is in the running games. Ohio features an explosive run game that averages 232.8 yards per game and their defense only allows 144 per game. Buffalo struggles in both of those categories but makes up for it in the passing game led by Junior QB Tyree Jackson. I expect Buffalo to rely on Jackson to expose the Bobcats poor pass defense on the road in Ohio.
The spread currently sits at -2 for Ohio. A surprising line for a 6-4 team taking on a 9-1 Buffalo team, even if it’s a home game. The game will be played Wednesday, November 14th at 7:00pm on ESPN2.
My Prediction: Buffalo-38 at Ohio-30
4: West Virginia (9) at Oklahoma State
It’s not often I’ll feature a game pitting a top ten team against a 5-5 team, but Ok State demands respect at home. After all they were a two-point conversion away from beating Oklahoma last week. The cowboys have the fire power necessary to keep up with anyone that comes to Stillwater. West Virginia is going to have it’s hands full on Saturday. The Mountaineers feature one of the best defenses in the Big 12 and they will need to keep it that way this weekend. Will Grier has reached the most important stretch of the season for his Heisman candidacy. He must show up and lead his team to victory. This game will probably be the most entertaining contest of the week.
The spread currently sits at -5 for West Virginia. I expect that spread won’t move at all leading up to kickoff, as it seems to be right where it should be. The game will be played on Saturday, November 17th at 3:30pm on ABC.
My Prediction: West Virginia-49 at Oklahoma State-31
3: Iowa State (16) at Texas (15)
Texas has had quite a year so far sitting at 7-3, ranked and having beaten rival Oklahoma. It’s been a refreshing sign for the Longhorns. However, Iowa State has somehow secretly had just as good a year as them and find themselves ranked below Texas. Iowa State are winners of their last five games including wins against West Virginia and Ok State. Both of whom beat Texas. The cyclones will be out for blood this week in Texas. Iowa State has the athletes in place to score in bunches and a defense that can hold opposing offenses down. Texas will need a big effort out of Sam Ehlinger if they want to walk away with a win. Being at home will certainly help.
The line currently sits at -3 for Texas at home. This will probably stay throughout the week. The game will be played on Saturday, November 17th at 8:00pm on the LongHorn Network. Fancy teams get their own network.
My Prediction: Iowa State-31 at Texas-35
2: Cincinnati (24) at UCF (11)
Bring on the Game Day crew! Orlando will be ready to greet Kirk Herbstreit with a chorus of boos! The Bounce House is going to be rocking come kickoff. This game should be a close one. Cincinnati has an elite defense amongst the group of 5 teams. They only allow an average of 278.2 yards of opposing offense per game, thats 145.2 less than UCF. The difference is the Knights elite offense scores around 10 more points per game and averages 95.2 more yards a game. Cincinnati’s defense hasn’t faced a QB like McKenzie Milton this year yet. The Bearcats offense relies heavily on their ground game, led by RB Michael Warren II. He’s already eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards this season and a staggering 17 TDs. This will be a problem for UCF. Running games can even the playing field for a road team in a hostile environment.
The Knights are currently favored by 7.5 at home. To be honest, this spread should probably be lower. The game will be played on Saturday, November 17th at 8:00pm on ABC.
My Prediction: Cincinnati-27 at UCF-31
1: Syracuse (12) vs Notre Dame (3)
Who are the Irish? This Notre Dame team reminds me a lot of the team that got spanked by Alabama in the National Championship game. They blow out some bad teams and then almost lose to others. They got a week one win over Michigan, but if they played today I would pick the Wolverines to win. Now they head to Yankee Stadium as apart of their shamrock series to play a very good Syracuse team. This is probably Notre Dame’s last real tough test. The Orange will push them to the edge. Syracuse can score…a lot! They average 44.4 points per game, ten more than the Irish. The Orange defense is suspect which could get in their way of pulling off an upset. Bad news for Syracuse, Ian Book will be back at the QB position for Notre Dame.
The line currently sits at -9 for Notre Dame in what is basically a road game for them. Could see this going down throughout the week. The game will be played on Saturday, November 17th at 2:30pm on NBC.
My Prediction: Syracuse-37 at Notre Dame-41
Upset of the Week
NEBRASKA over MICHIGAN STATE! Listen this may not be a traditional pick as Michigan State isn’t ranked anymore at 6-4, but Nebraska is 3-7 and is the vegas underdog at +2. Nebraska can’t go to a bowl game either. Scott Frost has the Cornhuskers firing on all cylinders at the moment and it seems that Freshman QB Adrian Martinez is unstoppable. The Spartans have been pretty mediocre this year and Nebraska has hit it’s stride heading into this one. Also, it’s gonna be played at Nebraska.
The game will be played on Saturday, November 17th at 12:00pm on FOX.
My Prediction: Michigan State-21 at Nebraska-31
