NFL Week 9 Picks: Immunized Against Losing

Estimated Reading Time: 6 Minutes

We got spooky last week, and we continued to come out in the positive. After that success we have to expect the Holiday movie picks for Week 16 are gonna be epic.

For now, let’s get back to our regularly scheduled picks.

Week 8 = 8-6

Season-to-Date = 64-47-2

Editor’s Note: That’s 56.6% for the season, Terry. Good work!

Week 9 of the 2021 NFL Season

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5)

Baker Mayfield is 5-1 vs. the Bengals in his career with 17 TDs and 7 INTs. The release of Odell Beckham Jr. could also be motivation for this team vs. a time to fall apart.

The Pick = Cleveland

Denver Broncos @ Dallas Cowboys (-9.5)

Dak’s back and the Broncos just traded away their best player of the last decade.

The Pick = Dallas

Houston Texans @ Miami Dolphins (-6.5)

The Texans were kind of decent with Tyrod Taylor. I am struggling to see why losing Mark Ingram would result in being this high of an underdog vs. a 1-7 team.

The Pick = Houston

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints (-6)

I have lost so many times this season on the Falcons. They are not a good team.

I also know how good Trevor Siemian looked vs. the defending champs last week.

And yet, I don’t like giving 6 points to a divisional rival starting their third-string QB.

The Pick = Atlanta

Las Vegas Raiders @ New York Giants (+2.5)

Raiders coming off a bye and the Giants missing both Barkley and Shepard. Las Vegas only needing to win by a FG to cover makes me confident here.

The Pick = Las Vegas

New England Patriots @ Carolina Panthers (+3.5)

The Patriots are riding high on their two-game winning streak and are looking like a team many Pats fans (including your truly) thought they could be.

The Panthers are getting back #1 fantasy pick Christian McCaffrey and it looks like Sam Darnold will start.

I think the Patriots are the better team, but I don’t like giving more than 3 points to an out-of-conference home team.

The Pick = Carolina

Buffalo Bills @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+14.5)

HISTORIC. NAME. GAME.

What a time to be alive, am I right?

The Pick = Buffalo

Minnesota Vikings @ Baltimore Ravens (-6.5)

Vikings are toast and the Ravens are coming off their bye. I think this could be the end of Minnesota’s season.

The Pick = Baltimore

Los Angeles Chargers @ Philadelphia Eagles (+2)

The Chargers are coming off a loss where they looked uninspiring. The Eagles are coming off a win where they ran up the score vs. the worst team in the league.

I think this line is at least a point off.

The Pick = Los Angeles

Green Bay Packers @ Kansas City Chiefs (-0.5)

FYI, I use the lines I receive on Wednesday for these picks so that’s why this line does not reflect Aaron Rodgers being out.

Also, you’re lucky this column was not 500 pages about why Aaron Rodgers is a dope.

Jordan Rodgers, I now speak directly to you. I was not a fan of you on “The Bachelorette” and sided with your MVP brother not wanting to be part of your desperate grab at fame. I apologize.

Your brother sucks and you were okay in “Pitch Perfect 2”.

The Pick = Kansas City

Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers (+1.5)

I think Kyler plays but this is dicey. Having Colt McCoy as the road favorite when San Francisco is getting George Kittle and Jeff Wilson Jr. back is terrifying.

You might also not put Kittle and Wilson on the same pedestal, but you clearly did not lose your fantasy championship last year because of Wilson’s 26.4 points in Week 16. I’m still bitter.

The Pick = San Francisco

Tennessee Titans @ Los Angeles Rams (-7.5)

Now the idea would be the line is likely too high based on the Rams acquiring Von Miller and the Titans losing Derrick Henry.

But the Titans losing Henry is way more than your average team losing their starting RB. Henry is the centerpiece of everything they do, and Tennessee doesn’t have anyone who can come close to filling this hole.

The Pick = Los Angeles

Chicago Bears @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-6.5)

What a way to end Week 9.

Roethlisberger is 1-3 vs. Chicago in his career, and as we learned before this Steelers team loves to lose a gimme game the week after a hard-fought victory.

The Pick = Chicago

That’s it, we’re now over halfway there. Thank you for reading and you’re welcome for the winners.

Let’s have a second half of the 2021 season!

Terry is from Massachusetts and is a passionate fan of the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins. He also will admit he only pays attention to Syracuse basketball when they're good. If there's a Twitter trade rumor even remotely associated with one of his teams, he's likely fallen for it. Finally, he believes 100% that if the Celtics had beaten the Heat in the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals they would have swept the Thunder in the Finals.
