I’m having trouble finding any sort of connection with sports these past few days. Nothing really matters to me except seeing Ukraine maintain its independence against a tyrant. However, sports are meant to be an outlet and provide a small sense of happiness during tough times. One piece of sports history that shouldn’t be overlooked are Tottenham’s Harry Kane & Son Heung-min.
Best Scoring Duo
After the shellacking over Leeds United, Kane & Son have combined to become the best scoring duo in Premier League history. As Tottenham had the match well in hand at 3-0, Son & Kane connected for the 37th time in their storied careers. Well behind midfield, Kane delivered a beauty of a rain drop directly in stride with Son. With only a goaltender to beat, Son powered it home to bring the match total to 4-0. The 37th connection has overtaken Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba for the all-time leaders.
With that said, let’s take a look back at some of the best goals between this dynamic duo.
Watching this goal is special. First of all, it’s against Arsenal. Secondly, Spurs ended up defeating Arsenal during this match, which is always important. As Son enters the box he is met with a double team from Arsenal defense. Kane somehow slips in to the left of Son and all Son needed to do next is put on a nifty crossover that lulls Arsenal to sleep. Kane collects the ball easily and slams it home.
I call this one Skip to my Lou because it reminds me of Rafer Alston back in the And-1 tour days. Against West Ham, Son retrieves the ball just outside the box and gives a little pass to Kane who does the rest. Kane takes a dribble then flat out embarrasses the West Ham defense by putting it through the defenders legs. Finally, one strike to the left post and there was nothing the goalkeeper could do about it as he was absolutely frozen. This one was cold blooded.
Just because of the pure drama and topicality behind this one, I couldn’t NOT include the Man City goal. As a newly self-appointed Tottenham super fan, this was the best match I’ve watched so far (with Bergwijn’s goals a VERY close second). Going against the top of the Premier League, Spurs were determined to take Man City down. With the score tied 1-1, Son delivers an absolutely gorgeous pass directly to the right foot of Kane who leaves the keeper stunned. To continue with my basketball analogies, I dub this one SPLASH.
Do yourself a favor and get lost on Youtube and find all 37 goals. They’re all so pretty and deserve your attention. I hope to see many more connections between these two legends in the years to come.
