COVID-19 is not new. We’re entering our third year of a wildly contagious and deadly pandemic. And yet there are still many who are not accepting the severity of it. Or, maybe, they are and they don’t care. The latter makes things way worse. It’s Aaron Rodgers being sketchy and Antonio Brown faking a vaccination card. This shit cannot exist in the world, and yet we are allowing athletes to do this right in front of us. And acting like it’s completely okay.
The fact of the matter is…it’s not.
Novak Djokovic is an unreal tennis player. He’s also an asshole. Djoker will throw a hissy fit if something doesn’t go his way. He refuses to get vaccinated, and that’s why this matters.
The United States is full of idiots who either don’t understand the severity of things or care too much about the bottom line to put their foot down. That’s why Antonio Brown only got a three-game suspension and was allowed to return and Aaron Rodgers has not been penalized in any way for spreading false information.
Meanwhile Djokovic is an anti-vaxer who has is ready for his first Grand Slam of 2022 in Melbourne. Because he’s an asshole who refuses to have empathy for other people, he is outspoken about how he won’t get vaccinated and seemingly is falsifying “exemptions” he has received from “medical professions” in order to compete in countries that require vaccination in order to enter. If he was trying to play in the US Open it wouldn’t matter. Because too many people here in the US believe trying to force people to be vaccinated is going to infringe upon their constitutional rights. But those people will still rail against women who want an abortion. “My body my choice” applied only when it’s convenient…
So let’s take a look at Australia. The International Governing Body of Tennis has decided to grant Djokovic a pass for his medical exemptions that he claims he has been given. So the Joker traveled to Australia.
And the Aussies won’t let him in.
Australia’s Prime Minister has called the tennis villain’s bluff, and has said that he must prove his medical exemptions in order to enter the country and compete in the Australian Open. And, so far, the Serbian star has not been able to do so.
So we’re at a standstill. There’s more to come on this. But at this moment, this writer is ecstatic that a government is finally standing up to someone who thinks their shit don’t stink and they’re above the law. Because if we allow millionaire athletes who care more about their paycheck than the heath of the people who support them to dictate how we navigate this pandemic? We may as well all start painting lambs blood over our doors.
