Well, well, well. It looks like all we needed to get back on track was the big slice of humble pie I served myself last week. The result? Our best week of the season.
Would I call myself a hero? No. But, do others? Absolutely.
Let’s keep this gravy train with biscuit wheels going in Week 6. We only have 13 games because four teams are on a bye. We also have EIGHT home dogs in Week 6, so this is gonna be quite a ride.
Week 5 = 10-4-1
Season-to-Date = 40-32-2
Week 6 of the 2021 NFL Season
Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5) – LONDON
What exactly is the NFL’s strategy with these London games? I think it was to grow the game, but between the Jets-Falcons last week and this garbage matchup, it feels more like we’re trying to limit global interest in American football.
Tua’s back for the Dolphins and even though he still might not be the long-term answer under center for them, Miami is still not coached by Urban Meyer.
The Pick = Miami
Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears (+4.5)
If the Bears win this game they’ll own a tie-breaker over Green Bay for first place in the NFC North. I think that is the type of motivation that the Packers have been lacking recently. I like Rodgers and Co. to open it up this week.
The Pick = Green Bay
Cincinnati Bengals @ Detroit Lions (+3.5)
One of the teams will be able to avenge heartbreaking Week 5 losses. Joe Burrow, the Bengals quarterback, is also nursing an interesting injury this week.
I think Cincy is the better, but every week I love how the Lions fight more and more. I like the extra .5 at home in a non-conference game.
The Pick = Detroit
Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts (-9.5)
The old rule for spreads is you look at the difference between two teams if they met on a neutral field, then add three points in favor of the home team.
So do I think the Colts are a touchdown better than the Texans? All I can say is I’ve spent the most time out of all of these picks trying to decide, which means I’m going to be wrong no matter what.
The Pick = Indianapolis
Los Angeles Ram @ New York Giants (+9.5)
Did you know Mike Glennon has made $32 million? Good for him!
I know Jones might still start, which would be a bad look for a team going nowhere. So if Glennon does start I’d just caution everyone to be nice. His third home is probably nicer than our first.
The Pick = Los Angeles
Kansas City Chiefs @ Washington Football Team (+7)
Karma Police.
The Pick = Kansas City
Minnesota Vikings @ Carolina Panthers (+1)
I know Darnold was playing on the Jets for those stats, but it still feels like a bad sign. Add in that Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out and Minnesota might see this as must-win.
The Pick = Minnesota
Los Angeles Charges @ Baltimore Ravens (-3)
Both of these teams look great this year. I like the Ravens having “been there before” in a major non-divisional conference battle.
The Pick = Baltimore
Arizona Cardinals @ Cleveland Browns (-3)
This is going to sound silly, but I think the Cardinals have been too good this season. They are a good team, but “6-0 with a win on the road without their head coach” level good? I don’t think so.
The Pick = Cleveland
Las Vegas Raiders @ Denver Broncos (-3.5)
The Broncos are inducting beloved coach Mike Shanahan into their ring of honor for this game.
The Pick = Denver
Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots (+3.5)
Here’s what I’m thinking. The Patriots looked worse than they really are for most of their game against Houston. Dallas also looked amazing against a team that lost its starting quarterback and best offensive player. This line should be Dallas -3.
The Pick = New England
Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-5)
Feels like the season is on the line for both teams. The quarterback matchup might be closer than most would imagine, even with Seattle going with Geno Smith. The expectation is these teams are gonna fight it out and the game will be decided by a field goal.
The Pick = Seattle
Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans (+5.5)
The Bills had to be ecstatic to walk out of Kansas City with a win. They look to be in the driver’s seat for the AFC. There has to be a letdown from that. I think they will still take care of business to get to 5-1, but Tennessee keeps it close enough to cover.
The Pick = Tennessee
Week 6, we are coming for you. We got 10 right last week, and it’d be easy to say let’s take it to 11. This is a long season though, so let’s focus on coming out ahead and be happy with that.
Enjoy the games!
