Wednesday Night Wars Preview: July 22nd

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

This is a weekly rundown of what to watch for Wednesday on AEW Dynamite (airing at 8 p.m. on TNT) And NXT (airing at 8 p.m. on USA). We’ll do our very best to hit you with the can’t-miss segments from both shows’ simultaneous broadcasts.

AEW Dynamite (Wednesday 8 p.m., TNT Network)

AEW gets back to business this week as Dynamite returns. Cody is back with his TNT Title Challenge. He has been lightly teasing a heel turn in recent weeks and that angle could see some further developments this week. Beyond that, I am enjoying developing talent getting a major shot and some TV time. Jungle Boy, Marq Quen, and Sonny Kiss have so far seen their stock rise after being featured in a title match against Cody. Who will we see this week?

Jurassic Express, who have been getting a lot of TV time as well in recent weeks, will go up against the Inner Circle’s Jake Hager and Chris Jericho. It seems like Luchasaurus and Hager, as two resident big men in the company, are heading toward a match up down the road. There is also the Orange Cassidy factor as he has been a thorn in Jericho’s side on recent Wednesday’s. This match should be nothing if not entertaining.

Match of the Night

We also get the Young Bucks vs the Butcher and Blade in tag team action. It seems as though we have a 3 way dance at the top of the tag division with the Young Bucks, Lucha Bros, and FTR with the Butcher and Blade thrown in as the whipping boys. Maybe they’ll get a measure of revenge this week. Their match with the Bucks will be a Falls Count Anywhere match, after all. My guess is this one won’t disappoint.

Other matches on the card are Women’s Division Diamante vs Ivelisse, Hangman Adam Page vs Five of the Dark Order. MJF will be in action, and we will see Brian Cage along with Taz.

NXT (Wednesday 8 p.m., USA Network)

Over on the NXT side of things it looks like Karrion Kross has put new NXT Champion Keith Lee on notice. But before he gets Lee, Kross will have to withstand Dominik Dijakovic this Wednesday.

Killian Dain will go one on one with Dexter Lumis in a battle of NXT bruisers. These two are as tough as they come in NXT, so we should see a good match. Will the Undisputed Era step in if Lumis gets distracted? It’s something to watch for.

NXT will also see a “Major Announcement” from general manager William Regal on Wednesday. Smart money is on an announcement regarding the North American Title, which Keith Lee holds in concert with his newly won NXT Championship.

Rob VanDam put his Intercontinental Title on the line vs European Champion Jeff Hardy in a Ladder Match.

There’s your previews, there’s the bell, this one’s over.
