Wednesday Night Wars Preview: June 17th

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

This is a weekly rundown of what to watch for Wednesday on AEW Dynamite (airing at 8 pm on TNT) and NXT (airing at 8 pm on USA). We’ll do our very best to hit you with the can’t-miss segments from both shows’ simultaneous broadcasts. Now…..FALL AND PRAY!

NXT (8 p.m., USA Network)

Last week, we saw Adam Cole win his non-title match vs Dexter Lumis. It was the post match celebration however that indicated that Cole’s reign as champion may be on borrowed time.

Scarlett appeared in the entranceway of the Full Sale arena and produced an hour-glass. It seemed to start a countdown between the NXT Champion and Kerion Kross, whom Scarlett represents. Hopefully, we will get more developments on this angle Wednesday night. Be on the lookout.

Now, on to the matches for Wednesday. We have a Women’s Tag Team Championship match as Shasha and Bayley return to NXT to take on Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox. This will no doubt be a great match and possibly go up against

A) either the Tag Team number 1 contenders match over on AEW Dynamite or

B) Cody defending his TNT Title against a still unknown opponent.

Either way, get ready for some channel flipping or take my advice and DVR one and watch the other live. I think the ends of both shows will be wild this week.

AEW (8 p.m., TNT Network)

In keeping with the tag team action over on AEW this week, there are three big tag matches. First up the The Young Bucks square off against Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc.

Next you have Tag Champs Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page taking on the Natural Nightmares of QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes. Omega and Page should breeze through the match and retain their titles ahead of Fyter Fest.

The next tag match up is the bigger one and will determine the number 1 contender for those titles. “Le Sex Gods” Chirs Jericho and Sammy Guevara will go up against Best Friends. Best Friends have been moving up the tag team rankings in the past few months and the opportunity at Fyter Fest is theirs to lose. Regardless, Sammy Guevara is a rising star in AEW and the Best Friends are as solid a team as they come. Add in Jericho and possibly Orange Cassidy seeking revenge for last week into the equation, and we have an interesting match.

Finally, on Wednesday Cody defends his TNT Championship against an unknown opponent. The possibilities for this are endless. The last two title defenses Cody has known his opponent. And let’s not forget his statement that members not on the AEW roster could challenge for his belt.

With an upcoming match against Jake Hagar at Fyter Fest, we may very well see a one-off performer this week. We can’t discount a returning star or someone like Darby Allin returning from injury. Pay attention to what spot this match lands on in the show and that should give some insight into the magnitude of the opponent.

There’s your previews, there’s the bell, this ones over, now RAISE MY HAND!
