Wednesday Night Wars Preview: June 24th

Estimated Reading Time: 4 Minutes

This is a weekly rundown article of what to watch for Wednesdays on AEW Dynamite (airing at 8 p.m. on TNT) and NXT (airing at 8 p.m. on USA). We will do our very best to hit you with the can’t-miss segments from both shows’ simultaneous broadcasts. Now HIT MY MUSIC and BASK IN MY GLORY!

Before we get to this week’s previews, I think it’s important to acknowledge the events of last week and the #SpeakingOut Movement. It is imperative that promotions across the industry thoroughly investigate the allegations of sexual abuse being levied against certain wrestlers and promoters. Any persons being found to be guilty of such abusive actions should be terminated. Zero tolerance policy. Simple as that.

Wrestling, as an industry, has to show unity on this issue. For the longest time, Wrestling has been a Boy’s Club, with the female stars succeeding in spite of their male counterparts. The women of wrestling are some of the hardest working in the sport. They have brought the women’s revolution upon us, they have headlined Wrestlemania, and on the most basic level, their matches are some of the most entertaining night after night. For the industry to take those accomplishments and cast them aside is reprehensible.

We at The Turf stand in support of the women coming forward and hope that the Wrestling industry changes its ways. If Wrestling can make changes that help heal their past, they can also make changes to better their future.

NXT (8 p.m., USA Network)

We’ll get right into this week’s NXT preview with the biggest match on the night: Keith Lee, Johnny Gargano and Finn Balor for the NXT North American title Wednesday. The winner will face NXT Champion Adam Cole in a winner-take-all match on the July 8th episode.

Now its always been my opinion that WWE has too many belts and not enough creative, so they tend to double up belts on wrestlers. Becky “Two Belts”, Bayley “Dos Straps’. You get it. But NXT has been losing the ratings wars to AEW on a consistent basis. Perhaps these PPV-worthy matches will stem the tide. The NXT North American title match will probably be the one to watch in the main event spot. AEW would have to counter with something pretty amazing to draw viewers away.

Also, you are going to want to watch out for Bronson Reed vs Karrion Kross. This battle of heavyweights may crumble the Full Sail Arena but it will have been worth it. Both men have been on a tear in NXT, dominating opponents. Last week Reed called out Kross for this week. How will Kross respond?

AEW (8 p.m., TNT Network)

It’s one week before Night 1 of AEW Fyter Fest. This Wednesday we will see Luchasaurus vs Wardlow in a lumberjack match. These kinds of gimmick matches are always fun and it’s good to get both these competitors some network time. It’s also a way to mix in MJF and Jungle Boy ahead of their Fyter Fest match. But are two big athletic guys and half the AEW roster set to keep order, or cause disorder at ringside? Definitely a must-watch.

Has Colt Cabana joined the Dark Order? Well, he is teaming with “The Exalted One” Brodie Lee this week as the two take on the team of Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela. Will Brodie Lee’s weeks worth of work courting Colt pay off? We may finally find out Wednesday.

Elsewhere on the night’s card, FTR face off against the Natural Nightmares, Cody and Jake Hagar’s press conference highlights ahead of their match next week, and Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy face off before their match at Fyter Fest. Will ‘Freshly Squeezed’ sound off on Le Champion? Whatever happens, Orange Cassidy is the perfect foil for Chris Jericho. There should be some can’t miss humor in this segment.

There’s your previews, there’s the bell, this ones over, now RAISE MY HAND!
