Wednesday Night Wars Preview: June 3rd

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

This is a weekly rundown of what to watch for on wrestling’s Wednesday Night Wars on AEW Dynamite (airing at 8 p.m. on TNT) and NXT (airing at 8 p.m. on USA). We will do our very best to hit you with the can’t-miss segments from both shows’ simultaneous broadcasts so you won’t miss out. Now get your thumb on the recall button and HIT MY MUSIC!

AEW Dynamite (8 p.m., TNT Network)

AEW brings us two title fights this Wednesday night. First up, Cody with his first-ever TNT Tile defense against Jungle Boy Jack Perry. This is week one of Cody’s weekly open challenge, which, as he has stated, isn’t necessarily confined to just the AEW roster. I think it’s refreshing to see a TV title like the TNT Championship being defended weekly. The prospect of an open challenge with some fresh faces from the Indies ups the intrigue by 1000% as well.

The second title match of the night sees Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page’s first title defense against Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc. I like that Sabian and Havoc are getting a shot here. Eventually, this team of Page and Omega is going to break down, and I hope a fresh tag team like Sabian and Havoc get a push when it does. Regardless, it’s going to be a good match.

And, finally, Tony Schiavone has a sit-down interview with “FTR” Fear the Revolt. Recently let go from WWE and having made their AEW debuts last week I’m sure Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood will have a lot to say about what and who brings them to AEW.

NXT (8 p.m., USA Network)

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Florida, NXT will be having their ‘go home show’ as they head into Sundays NXT: In Your House pay-per-view. Slated for Wednesday, however, is the finals of the NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament. Drake Maverick vs El Hijo Del Fantasma. If you are a fan of the cruiserweights, much like I am, you won’t want to miss this one.

Aside from this, there isn’t much out there for what is going to be on Wednesday’s show. You can bet Charlotte, Rhea Riply and Shirai will have some sort of confrontation before their big three-way match for the NXT Women’s title this Sunday. Adam Cole and Velveteen Dream should also be on hand to promote their big championship match this coming weekend. As I suspect, Adam Cole’s (Bay Bay) 365+ day reign as champion will come to an end Sunday. Look for him and the Undisputed Era to get the drop on Dream at some point during the show. And it is my hope that Timothy Thatcher gets some air time fresh off his win against the King of Bros Matt Riddle last week.
