I was a PlayStation kid growing up. We had a regular Nintendo, then a SEGA Genesis, then the original PlayStation. After that, we didn’t get another system. So while my friends were evolving with the gaming systems, I was still sitting on that PlayStation, wearing those game disks down until they were no longer usable.
My friends and I enjoyed skateboarding and the X-Games, but I was AWFUL at skating. Like…terrible. While Jason, JJ, and Pat were working on their kickflips, I was still trying to ollie without killing myself.
Enter Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
This was the one way I could be “good” at skating. Honestly? It was perfect. The soundtrack sent me down a punk phase that I still haven’t grown out of. Give me Bucky Lasek skating through Downtown Minneapolis or Bob Burnquist hitting the Warehouse while blasting “Superman” by Goldfinger. ALL. DAY.
So, today, imagine how my soul reacted to seeing this:
First and foremost…Happy 52nd birthday to Tony, you absolute legend. Second, holy SHIT. September feels so close, yet so far.
Okay, okay, okay. I’m breathing again. You want to know what’s happening? Activision announced that Vicarious Visions is remastering Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. It will be available for PS4, Xbox One (sigh of relief), and PC. Original maps. All the OG skaters. LET’S. GO.
This makes me want to buy some fingerboards to pass the time over the next four months until the games drop. Remember fingerboards? Guess now that I just cleaned my apartment and got rid of a bunch of old stuff I’m going to replace it all with a fingerboard skate park. Somebody save me from myself.
If you need me I’ll be throwing together my playlist of Goldfinger, The Vandals, and Dead Kennedys now.
Sorry for yelling. But I hope you share in my excitement. Somehow I already have this playlist together, so I’ll be going down a rabbit hole of THPS videos now.
