The day has finally arrived! It’s the first Bachelor Monday of the year! For those of you who are part of Bachelor/Bachelorette Nation, January 7th is the first day of Rose Season! With fantasy leagues, watch parties, and group chats exploding, I think it’s time we talked this season’s Bachelor: Colton Underwood.
Colton made his Bachelor/Bachelorette debut during Becca Kufrin’s season. After Arie ripped her heart out on national TV and deciding to take back his ring and give it to his second choice Lauren, Becca K. decided to “Do The Damn Thing” again and find love on her own… with the help of Chris “This Mansion Is My Home” Harrison.
Billed as a former pro football player, Colton seemed to have the good looks and charm of a serious frontrunner. Not to mention, he had a good heart. Colton founded the Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation in 2016, which raises money for research and medical equipment for children suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.
Later on, after
Colton’s got a good heart, and he wanted to share it with Becca.
The most important thing to know about Colton’s first appearance on the show is that he was first out of the limo. The last time a contestant who was first out of the limo didn’t make it to the fantasy suites (the final 3) was Season
That was until Colton didn’t receive a rose after his hometown date. Becca would then go on to pick Garrett Yrigoyen, who looks like a Canadian Football League Tony Romo.
Oh, I should have warned you. I’m very serious about the Bachelor/Bachelorette. I didn’t come to play around.
During Becca’s season, it also came to light that Colton had been romantically involved with another contestant from Arie’s season: Tia Booth. When confronted about this, both parties denied any sort of remaining romantic feelings and things went on without a hitch… Just Kidding. It was a huge
That is until Bachelor in Paradise.
Bachelor in Paradise is a garbage pile of a TV show. However, I’m willing to be king of the garbage dump. I do one awful thing every year, and that thing is watch Bachelor in Paradise.
So Colton makes his way to Mexico where he’s met by my personal favorite incarnation of Chris Harrison, the lazy beach version. While in Mexico, Colton tried to make things right with Tia, who had been shacking up with Chris, a different contestant from Becca’s season.
Tia and Colton circled each other, making it an obvious top storyline. It wasn’t until after a surprise visit from Becca in Paradise that the cracks began to show. Colton was obviously not over his ex, and that became apparent with his meltdown after their face-to-face conversation.
Next sought out Tia and told her that he had tried to get over Becca and figure out what he wanted, but couldn’t. After Paradise, Tia told People Magazine, “I was frustrated with Colton initially because I was thinking, If you don’t know what you want, why are you here?”
And that’s a good question. If anything, that’s THE question.
There have been many Bachelors who left their inaugural season in emotional tatters, but almost none of them went to Paradise immediately after.
Here’s my theory. Colton went to Paradise in the hopes of finding something with Tia or someone else. It’s either that or he went to remain on TV. Becca’s runner-up Blake (who I thought was the one for her) seemed to be a shoe-in for the next seasons Bachelor, and I think Colton knew that.
So your next option is to pull a Nick Viall and just show up every single time a camera is near Chris Harrison until they give you a show of your own.
Does this make Colton a bad person? No, it shows that he knows how to play the game. The real test is whether or not he can play the game from the other side of the ball.
And we’ll find out if he can, this year IN THE MOST DRAMATIC SEASON OF THE BACHELOR TO DATE.
…oh, and Colton’s also a virgin, which will be talked about at least 4,000 times.

To me, Rachel Nichols is the personification of posting a black square on Instagram.
